Keep MERS at bay with hand hygiene

In a coordinated effort to prevent illness at home, school and work, BME and Kimberly Clark Professional are continuing their ongoing health education programme through the introduction of an extensive range of hand soaps, sanitizers and wipes to support the ‘Wash, Wipe, Sanitize’ campaign.

The lethal MERS-CoV virus has appeared in the Middle East and so these precautions are particularly relevant. MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus) is a viral respiratory illness that was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. Since then the illness has spread to many countries across the Middle East and Europe. It typically causes acute respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough and a shortness of breath.

MERS-CoV has been known to spread between people who are in close contact. This can range from sharing items to shaking hands.
